What to Expect
Your provider has treated your skin lesion with an injection of Candida, a yeast antigen. This treatment is referred to as immunotherapy. Immunotherapy is most commonly used to treat conditions such as warts or molluscum. The goal of immunotherapy with Candida is to stimulate your body’s immune system to fight the virus that causes the warts or molluscum.
Some things you should be aware of regarding your injection:
-
A localized skin reaction is common. Do not be alarmed if you have swelling at the injection site, redness, and itching.
-
Less common side effects include fever with flu-like symptoms for about 1 day after the injection due to a larger immune response. Sometimes moderate to severe swelling can occur, and icing the area can be helpful. Severe reactions are rare but please seek immediate medical attention if you develop symptoms of an allergic reaction such as hives, difficulty breathing, and/or swelling of the face, lips or tongue. Please report any concerning symptoms to our office.
-
Acetaminophen (Tylenol) can be used to manage pain or flu-like symptoms, as needed.
-
You will likely need a series of injections for optimal results.
